The Fray <3's Three Bears <3's The Fray

Spending a few days with my dear friend David. Tonight we were at Riverbend Amphitheater. in my childhood city, Cincinnati. Dave was kind enough sport his new Three Bears Ohio T-Shirt, (to commemorate his visit) on stage during their set. So I snapped a few photos from the press gate during the show. Also, we are about to re-print these shirts (we've run out of stock is size Medium) and are also printing girls sizes, in case the XS wasn't small enough for the ladies.

A logo here, and a logo there.

Keith and I just finished up two logos for the companies Steval and Stevali. Steval is a stylish plumbing fixture company, and Stevali focuses on quality italian cabinetry. We went through a lot of ideas for these companies and are very pleased with the final results. We feel that they represent the unique styles of each of the companies, while still having similar names.

Native Lights

I just finished up this shirt for Native Lights. They are a new band out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, founded by Johnathon Ford, including members of Unwed Sailor, Ester Drang, Callupsie and Ol' Savior. The goal of this was to create something mysterious, that communicated the LIGHTS aspect of the band name, as well as working in some elements of the Native half of the name. The blue is a metallic coated ink.

mewithoutYou and honey too

We Bears had the opportunity recently to connect with one of todays most profoundly poetic bands, mewithoutYou. Their most recent release, "It’s all crazy! It’s all false! It’s all a dream! It’s alright." gave us some deep inspiration to create some intricate designs. The song "The Fox, the Crow, and the Cookie" was the key song that drove the artistry to a shirt design the band immediately said, "Let's print it!"  Make sure you listen to the rich layering of lyric, fun, and brass and you will instantly know why we were drawn to this incredibly catchy song. We are grateful for the opportunity and hope to connect with Aaron and the crew down the road.  Be sure to check out this design on their next tour near you!

YFM in Alternative Press

My buddy Aaron just gave me last month's issue of Alternative Press. I didn't realize this until after the issue was circulated, but Aaron gave me the copy because Yours For Mine's album "Dear Children" was featured as one of the staff picks. It's always fun to see your work in an unexpected sighting.

Relient K

Relient K have been long time friends of the bears. A couple of the bears did shirts for them years ago, when the band was starting out. We couldn't have been happier to re-kindle that flame, when they asked us to come up with some new shirts for their summer tour. They immediately picked 5 shirts from us, and we are working on a couple more, for being sold at a later date.

Flipd Logo in use

We Bears love creative collaboration and we also love to see what others create once we have set the visual design in motion.  Here is a great example of us creating the brandmark for "Flipd" and Joel Harris (Middle School Pastor & Instigator of Justice for First Friends in Canton, Ohio) developing other materials once we passed the baton to him.  This is fantastic Joel!

Champion for Children's

The Bears once again had the privilege of designing this years "Champion for Children's" donor appreciation dinner invitations.  The client liked last year's invites so much that they wanted to carry over the logo and keep the color pallet to start creating a familar "branding" for the event.  This time the Bears designed a square, die-cut, trifold format that made the invite not only look contemporary, but very engaging and beautifully simple.  The fresh ornamentation captured the atmosphere of the event and the use of color engages the donor to remember to RSVP.  Another successful project for a great cause!

The Red Team

We were just given the printed copies of a CD I did last month, pro bono. (Note: never ask us to do work for free.) The Red Team is Ashland's First United Methodist Church's worship band. Fellow Bear, Adam is in the band, and on the CD. It was made to look like an old hymnal, and even the texture of the printed paper slightly hints at the visible texture.

Save the Date!

I've been wanting to post pictures of these for a while now but I figured I should wait until I had at least some of them in the mail...we're still trying to gather addresses for everyone else. I designed them myself and fellow bear, Charlie, screen printed them for us. I'm really pleased with the result and I'm hoping they don't get too trashed in their journey through the US postal service.

Or So it Goes.

All I needed was to see the word "narwhal" and I jumped at the chance to work on this design. It seems like the band Or So it Goes enjoys sea life just as much as I do.

Fun fact: The Inuit word for Narwhal means "One who points to the sky."

An apparel update.

I recently completed a design for the Californian band PK. After discussing a handful of shirt ideas with them we settled on this moody, rainy scene reminiscent of a european street. The added texture of the athletic grey shirt that it will be printed on will really add to the overall feel. Charlie tackled the second, simpler, blue design.

Our work, first time being Tattooed

A nice fellow named James just sent me this photo of his newly decorated right arm. It's a piece from the work we did for The Winston Jazz Routine's "Sospiri." He also asked me to possibly send him some other pieces of the work to go along with it. We've had a few requests for images to use as tattoo's, but as far as I know, this is the first one to actually be stuck under someone's skin (so to speak.) He just got it the other day, so in this photo it is still in the oozy-dripping-bloody-swelled-up stage. Can't wait to see it bright and healed.

Speak of The Winston Jazz Routine, Nathan has recently killed the moniker, and is now making music under his given name, Nathan Phillips. And if you are in the Northern Ohio area, he has a show tomorrow (Sunday) evening, in Bellville, Ohio, with Julie Lee, and long time friend (and client) Aaron Roche, on their tour via Calvin's Festival of Faith and Music.

Unwed Sailor Pittsburgh Posters

Last weekend I printed posters for Unwed Sailor's upcoming show at Pittsburgh's Brillobox. These fellas have been good friends for quite some time, and I was thrilled to print these posters for them. They are a two color print (White and 6 to 1 Magenta) on French 100 Speckletone Kraft. I will be selling them at the show, and the remains in our online store after the show.
