That's always been a given, and something that we celebrate. It's a lot of fun to be able to design a shirt for our favorite band during one month, while the next is being spent providing layout and design for a world-renowned children's hospital. Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and we enjoy our honey as spicy as it can come. Bring it.

To add to the variety, a certain computer company approached us, inviting us to tackle some projects for them. Microsoft Corporation recently hired us to provide design for a little something called Tailspin Travel, which Microsoft describes as ultimately seeking "to provide a holistic perspective of how Visual Studio 2010, .NET Framework 4, and the server platform can be used together". We like to think of it simply as a snazzy travel application that Microsoft presented at PDC 2009, and one that they will soon be featuring on their ASP.NEThomepage. This project was the synthesis of hard work by a number of Bears, including the incredible Mr. Konya, our newest Bear friend, Stephen Knowlton, and myself.

In short, we Bears are pretty stoked to share this with you, and can't wait for you to see the next Microsoft-related project when it debuts in January of 2010.

Read more, HERE and HERE.

Hatching Owls

As part of Crafty Mart two weeks ago, I debuted a new handmade item for sale. That's quite a bit of room to stretch some serious imagery across. Our goal was too illustrate the four seasons, (one to each panel) and have them merging together seamlessly. Then the booklet is full of lyrics, and illustrations and watercolor. Be sure and check it out when it comes out on August 8th.

Sospiri Tattoo

A few months ago, I posted about our friend James, who got the Conductor, from the cover of The Winston Jazz Routine's Sospiri record tattooed on his arm. The artwork is a vintage splashy watercolor illustration of the rural backwoods that are often responsible for inspiring really good folk music. This is no stretch for this record. We wanted to illustrate the album title's River, and give the feel of seclusion in the woods. Additionally, David was a treat to work with. It's great when everyone is really patient with each other. Getting along well, makes this process always function very smoothly.

Sweet Station Stickers

Honey over at Sweet Station just hooked us up with some free stickers. Tonight we were at Riverbend Amphitheater. in my childhood city, Cincinnati. So I snapped a few photos from the press gate during the show. Their most recent release, "It’s all crazy! It’s all false! It’s all a dream! It’s alright." gave us some deep inspiration to create some intricate designs. The song "The Fox, the Crow, and the Cookie" was the key song that drove the artistry to a shirt design the band immediately said, "Let's print it!" Make sure you listen to the rich layering of lyric, fun, and brass and you will instantly know why we were drawn to this incredibly catchy song. We are grateful for the opportunity and hope to connect with Aaron and the crew down the road. Be sure to check out this design on their next tour near you!

YFM in Alternative Press

My buddy Aaron just gave me last month's issue of Alternative Press. It's always fun to see your work in an unexpected sighting.

Relient K

Relient K have been long time friends of the bears. A couple of the bears did shirts for them years ago, when the band was starting out. We couldn't have been happier to re-kindle that flame, when they asked us to come up with some new shirts for their summer tour. They immediately picked 5 shirts from us, and we are working on a couple more, for being sold at a later date.
